I’ve been a member of the Christ Church community since the fall of 1974, when I joined the choir under Dr. Godfrey Hewitt. I’ve continued to sing with the choir throughout, although for a few years when I was away at University, I was only able to chime in at Christmas and Easter and other school downtimes!
I became more involved in parish life in 1988 when I first served on what were then called the “Music Committee” and “Parish Council”; since then I’ve served multiple terms on the latter, and I’ve been a member of the Finance Advisory Panel since 2004.
Much of my life outside of the Cathedral is also linked to choral music: I sing with the Anglican Chorale of Ottawa and the Cranmer Singers as well, and previously sang with The Men’s Voyces and other groups. I have especially enjoyed the opportunity to travel on choir trips, in Canada and abroad. I’ll note one little hobby of mine, as it’s Cathedral-related: I like to periodically dig through the online archives of the Ottawa Journal and Ottawa Citizen, to discover accounts – often surprisingly detailed – of Cathedral and choir life in past generations; it’s fascinating to see the mix of things that have changed and those that haven’t!
